I have recently discovered the work of John Opella. Gorgeous. I love his use of colour and texture. Hide seems to be the perfect medium for experimenting with texture; the lay of the nap can highlight geometric shapes, and can shine or throw shadows that illuminate the overall piece. I want to touch it. Is it soft, or bristly?
I especially like some of the work on this site, especially the single block colour pieces: http://www.kylebunting.com
I'm inspired to look at quilt designs and work one up using textured fabric laid in different directions so that texture replaces pattern.
